How did the Solectra Sunrise achieve such a high driving range?

Question by peterx92000: How did the Solectra Sunrise achieve such a high driving range?
I’ve been looking at Electric cars recently and hoping to help break the U.S’s oil monkey.

In this quest i found the Solectra Sunrise on Wiki and noticed that it achieved 375 miles on a single charge.
My question is HOW the heck did it do so well and why are all the current electric vehicles so limited in range?
Even the 100K tesla roadster will only do a little over 200 miles before it needs charging.

375 is probably not true. Ask other solectra owners how much they get. One guy with a solectric had put nicad batteries from a ups computer backup system into his, getting about 20 miles range. UPS batteries are not really good traction motive power type batteries (lessons learned for him). Same thing trying to use starting batteries instead of deep cyle batteries (low range).
But you can always add more and more and more to get more range but you lose cargo capacity by adding the extra weight.
