I don’t know if my answer will be of much help, but…

I live in Macon but have made MANY frequent trips to Atlanta for both business and pleasure. I’ve played golf in Atlanta a few times, but am not familiar enough with all the courses and driving ranges. The place is huge. But there is one place of know of in “north” Atlanta. There is a 9-hole “executive” course and an 18-hole course right next to each other, up in the Marietta area. The 9-hole is called Regency, I think. The 18-hole is Fox Run. They are located on Windy Hill Road, about a mile south of Cobb Parkway (Highway 41, I think). Also, I’m not sure if I’m saying the direction. It’s either just south or just west (not sure what direction Cobby Pkwy runs). But put it this way: If you get off of I-75 on the Windy Hill exit, and turn TOWARDS Cobb Pkwy, you would keep going that direction. Both courses will be on your right-hand side. A lot of people use the Regency driving range. It is very nice. I’ve stayed at the Hyatt Suites a lot on the corner of I-75 and Windy Hill, and I always bring my clubs to go to that range to get some practice in. Can’t remember how much I pay for balls, though.

Another suggestion: If you want to hone your skills but don’t want to break the bank, consider going to Wal-Mart or somewhere and buying yourself two or three bags of the recycled golf balls. Sometimes there’s like 50 or 75 or so in a mesh bag, for like 8 bucks. They buy yourself a shag bag for like 10 bucks. I know a lot of public parks now have signs that say “no golf playing” and stuff like that.. but if you can find an open field somewhere. Anywhere. A park, a school playground (when the kids are out, obviously) – you can go out in the evening and hit balls.

You’ll always have balls and will never have to pay to hone your skills. The positive: You’ll get extra exercise in having to go pick up your balls afterwards. The negative: You’ll get extra exercise in having to go pick up your balls afterwards.

Hope this helps.
